As we wait for the Notre Dame football team to kick off 2025, the Irish just got some big news on a neutral-site tilt against an ACC rival in 2027.

Marcus Freeman and Co. are neutral-site masters, and it doesn't hurt that when they face off in the Duke's Mayo Classic on October 9, 2027, it will be against a Wake Forest program the Golden Domers have never lost to.

Notre Dame football sets date for Duke's Mayo Classic

On Monday morning, Duke's Mayo Classic announced that the Notre Dame football team and the Wake Forest Demon Deacons will face each other in a regular season game that will take place at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.

"We are excited for another chance to play in an NFL stadium and against the Demon Deacons," Notre Dame Deputy Athletics Director for Football Ron Powlus said in a statement. "The opportunity to showcase our two great institutions and football programs, while affording our football program and student-athletes an exciting and unique experience in the great city of Charlotte, is one we can't wait to be a part of."

It stands to reason that the game against Wake will also count as one of the contests against ACC teams the Irish have agreed to play every season as part of a deal with the conference.

Notre Dame has played six games in school history against Wake and is 6-0 but has never taken on the Demon Deacons on a neutral site.

In the 2024 regular season, the Irish played at three neutral-site locations. They beat Georgia Tech, 31-13, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, blew out Navy, 51-14, at Metlife Stadium in New Jersey and took care of Army, 49-14, at Yankee Stadium in the Shamrock Series game.

The last time Notre Dame football went up against Wake Forest, they won the game 45-7. The 2027 Duke's Mayo Classic will be the first time the two schools have played since 2023.
