Rumblings around the Notre Dame football team have been oddly quiet since the transfer portal opened on December 9. It appears the team is in a holding pattern until at least the first week of the playoffs.

However, with both Beaux Collins and Kris Mitchell in their final years of eligibility, it would seem the Irish will look for at least one wide receiver from the portal. And as it happens, one player the program is familiar with is looking for a new home.

Keagan Johnson chose Iowa out of high school, but it wasn’t because of a lack of trying from Notre Dame football coaches. His final three that year came down to the Irish, the Hawkeyes and the Huskers. Now, after transferring to Kansas State a few years back, he’s in the portal again and could make a nice target for a team not looking for a receiver counting on being “the” offense.

Notre Dame football could kick the tires on Keagan Johnson

While the Omaha native has never put up eye-popping numbers, he did have his best collegiate season in 2024. He finished with 29 catches for 359 yards and a touchdown. Over the course of his career with Iowa and Kansas State, he’s totaled 73 catches for 949 yards and 5 touchdowns.

It’s unlikely that Johnson would be one of the first targets for the Notre Dame football team. However, with plenty of players already coming off the board, it’s possible the Fighting Irish could take a long look at the former Wildcat.
