The Notre Dame football program has its quarterback locked in for the 2026 recruiting class in the form of Noah Grubb. However, the school is still looking for the next big commit and it looks like for now, it has set it sights on 2027 quarterback prospect Jameson Purcell.

Purcell has rocketed up the charts as far as one of the most sought after gunslingers in the class. The Maine South (Park Ridge, IL) quarterback has been getting a ton of offers from some of the most powerful programs in the country. The Fighting Irish are among them.

Now the Notre Dame football program will get Purcell to come back for an unofficial visit during the Irish Invasion camp this weekend. The camp has been a top recruiting tool for Marcus Freeman and his staff for several years now. Freeman and his staff are hoping it can be again.

Rated as the No. 21 quarterback and the No. 9 player in the state of Illnois for the 2027 class according to On3, Purcell has offers from Nebraska, Wisconsin, Indiana, Ole Miss, USF, Auburn, Louisville, and Miami among many, many others.

At the moment, that site believes the Huskers are the front runners for his services. However, there’s a long way to go and it’s clear that Notre Dame thinks they can make some inroads.

The chance to host him at the Irish Invasion is going to be one way for Marcus Freeman to get the Notre Dame football program in the front door. Then, the race becomes anyone’s to win.
