Fresh off a game where Jeremiyah Love set a Notre Dame stadium record for rushing yards in a game, it looks like the Fighting Irish have impressed top 2027 running back prospect Kemon Spell enough that he got an official prediction that he'll commit to Marcus Freeman and Co. in the very near future. But that's not what made the most noise on Sunday; it was what Spell said about why he decommitted from Penn State that might cause some shockwaves.
"I was leaning towards (decommitting) anyway, regardless, because they started losing and I want to be in a winning program," Spell told On3 this weekend.
"I want to be in a winning program, to be honest," the potential newest Notre Dame commit added. “They can’t win big games and that’s something I want to do…if you can't do that at Penn State, then coach Franklin got fired and that just put me over the top."
Kemon Spell calls out Penn State as Notre Dame momentum skyrockets

While the Irish have arguably lost some big games this season to both Miami and Texas A&M, they are a program that has shown they can win when the pressure is on. Spell was in attendance to see one of those big wins, as he watched the Blue and Gold topple the USC Trojans in person on Saturday night. There's the bonus that ND's running backs coach, Ja'Juan Seider, is credited with being the guy who brought Spell to Penn State in the first place.
To add injury to insult, Spell was predicted by Rivals' Steve Wiltfong to commit to the Irish on Sunday morning. That followed a rather cryptic post from fellow Rivals writer Hayes Fawcett, who hinted that Notre Dame got a pair of commits out of the weekend.
So far, no one has announced they've committed, though it's possible one could be coming in the next few days. Should that happen, it will have been a fantastic weekend for the Notre Dame football program indeed.
