After rumors of injuries started circulating around the Notre Dame football team earlier this week, the school confirmed that two players are out for the rest of the season. The unfortunate talk around Kedren Young and Kevin Bauman turned out to be true.
On Saturday, Notre Dame officially announced that Young and Bauman both suffered knee injuries. Young sustained a right knee anterior cruciate ligament tear, and Bauman had a left knee articular cartilage injury during preseason practice. The school further announced that both players have to undergo surgery and will miss the rest of the season.
Both players have been the topic of more than a bit of message board talk over the last few days. Some Notre Dame football fans held out hope that neither was as bad as people thought because there hadn't been an announcement.
Kedren Young (right knee, anterior cruciate ligament tear) and Kevin Bauman (left knee, articular cartilage injury) sustained injuries during preseason practice. The injuries will subsequently require surgery and force them to miss the remainder of the 2025 season.

Once again, it turned out the rumor mill was right. If there is anything positive to take away from the situation, it's that a third rumored player was not confirmed on Saturday.
Jaden Greathouse is rumored to have missed a practice earlier this week. So far, there hasn't been any confirmation that he's even banged up.
Young, who played in seven games last year, totaled 116 rushing yards and one score as a freshman. The Texas native drew high praise from running backs coach Ja'Juan Seider for his development over the last six months and was expected to challenge for the No. 3 or No. 4 running back role this season.
Bauman's Notre Dame football career has constantly been derailed by unfortunate injuries dating back to his redshirt freshman year, when he broke his fibula. In 2022 and 2023, Bauman suffered ACL injuries, and his career never had the chance to take off.
