The heart of the 2027 football recruiting cycle is getting closer and closer as the summer begins soon. Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman seems to already be ahead of the game with 17 recruits in the 2027 class and the No. 3 class in the nation, according to 247Sports.
Notre Dame hasn't just risen in the rankings for 247Sports, but also in the Rivals rankings. Notre Dame just landed five-star defensive lineman David Folorunsho last week, and that vaulted the Irish to the No. 5 rank in the Rivals team recruiting rankings.
Folorunsho's commitment also gave Notre Dame a recruiting score of 93.198. That score is a average of the top eight recruits recruiting scores and the Irish already have a higher score for the 2027 class before the heart of the recruiting cycle, than they did in 2026 when it was 92.958.

The great news for Notre Dame is that there is still time for even higher rated recruits to join the Irish, so that number has potential to go up even more. The score for recruits comes based off the star rating that they receive, with five-stars getting a 6.1, four-stars a 5.8 to 6.0, three-stars a 5.7 to 5.5, and two-stars a 5.4 to 5.2.
Freeman has been excellent so far in the 2027 recruiting cycle and with big official visit seasons coming up, Notre Dame has the opportunity to make a big splash.
Marcus Freeman has put on a recruiting clinic for the Class of 2027
As mentioned before, Freeman already has 17 recruits committed to the Class of 2027 at Notre Dame. In 2026, Freeman has 25 players enrolled and five more coming in the summer months with signed letters of intent. Freeman is already over halfway to that number for 2027, and the heart of the cycle is around the corner.
The summer months are always big for football recruiting as prospects are making official visits, able to be on campus and really get a feel for a program. Granted, the teams and programs are putting together all the stops for these weekends.
Freeman, however, doesn't just one big recruiting weekend, but will bring in many recruits throughout May and June, and potentially even into July. There will be plenty of opportunities for Notre Dame to have big wins in the recruiting game and there is an expectation almost that Freeman will get the Irish back o top soon.
