Notre Dame lost quarterback Riley Leonard, who led them to the National Championship last season, to the NFL, so a quarterback battle has brewed in South Bend. The Fighting Irish have two young quarterbacks, CJ Carr and Kenny Minchey, battling it out for the starting position.
Many people already believe that Carr has won the battle early in fall camp, but when speaking to the media today, Minchey made sure to remind everyone this battle is still very much alive.
"I'm capable," Minchey said. "I believe I'm the best quarterback in the country."
Those are some big words for a young quarterback, but confidence is never a bad thing to have, especially in a position battle. Minchey served as a backup last season for the Fighting Irish and only saw action in one game against Purdue in Notre Dame's huge victory.

Minchey is in no way a bad quarterback; he certainly has the skill to be a starter, or else he wouldn't be in this position battle. The Tennessee native was a four-star recruit coming out of high school, ranked as the No. 14 quarterback in the class of 2023 and the No. 2 player in the state of Tennessee.
With fall camp still in its early stages for all programs right now, Minchey still has a lot of time to win this battle, but he is going up against Carr, who has shown a lot this offseason. Head coach Marcus Freeman has said the guy who wins the locker room is the guy they will start truly looking at to be the starter for the 2025 season.
Freeman has also mentioned that the Fighting Irish could go with a two-quarterback system with both playing during a game. While it may not be trading off series, it could look like when a certain play is called, which quarterback has the better skills to make it.
Minchey just wanted to give a little reminder that he is still in this battle adn he isn't going anywhere because he has the confidence to get it done.
