When the Notre Dame football team lost to Louisville last season, it was clear they didn’t take it very well. The coaches and players might not have said it, but it was clear Saturday was a chance for revenge.

Meanwhile, Louisville entered the game in South Bend undefeated and looking like they could contend for a playoff spot. These kinds of games tend to include quite a bit of emotion.

After Notre Dame football won 31-24, emotions got the best of the two squads as they left the field. In fact, for a few minutes at least, it looked like punches could be thrown before it was all said and done.

While Saturday afternoon was just the fifth meeting between ND and the Cards, the two teams clearly do not care much for each other. Schools have alternated hosting a budding rivalry that started in 2014, as the Irish broke the series tie to take a 3-2 advantage after their victory on Saturday. In the process, they got their revenge for the 2023 beatdown.

Things didn’t simply erupt after the game either. There was some very obvious trash talking happening on the field, during the contest. That trash talking went to another level when the teams were about to head to the lockery room.

ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg caught the moment on camera and it appears the Notre Dame football players got under the skin of the losing Cardinals squad. You can watch the full video above.
