Now that Notre Dame football fall practice is officially here, there is plenty of buzz online. That was especially the case once head coach Marcus Freeman briefed the media about some of his players, like Benjamin Morrison and Mitchell Evans.

However, while fans of the Fighting Irish are juiced up and ready to go, there is at least one analyst who didn’t feel as though the excitement was matched by the team itself. In fact, South Bend Tribune’s Tom Noie felt as though things were surprisingly flat, considering the time of year.

Because he got to watch the Notre Dame football program practice, he weighed in on what he saw. And what he saw has him more than a little uncomfortable about the lack of pop, energy, and excitement as the team gets ready for what is a very important season.

There were too few whoa moments on either side. It was a weird day. Not good. Not bad. Not indifferent. Weird. Instead of leaving the 90-minute session with a feeling of “FOOTBALL’S BACK!” it was more like, “Meh, football’s back,” Noie wrote.

It’s worth pointing out that this practice was open to the media. The rest won’t be.

It’s possible that things were a little stilted for that reason.

Noie is right to be a bit concerned. There’s been a lot of excitement about this season for the spring and summer. If there wasn’t among Notre Dame football players on Wednesday, that’s weird.

But there’s no guarantee it means anything at all, moving forward.
