While the Notre Dame football team is busy getting ready for the 2024 season, it’s also working hard on the recruiting front. This week, the Irish are hosting their annual Grill and Chill get together, with some of the best targets from 2026 as well as several commits from the 2025 cycle.

Damari Simeon is one of the many targets seeing what South Bend has to offer this week. And it’s safe to say that he was totally blown away by what he saw and what went down with the coaches and the recruits.

Notre Dame football massively impressed Damari Simeon

“It was just unbelievable,” Simeon reportedly told Irish Insider. “Notre Dame is such a prestigious school, a school like that, thinking that you're good enough to give you an offer is just insane. It's unbelievable.”

It wasn’t just the offer that has the offer that impressed the defensive line target out of St. Augustine Prep in New Jersey. The highly coveted 2026 prospect got to spend quite a bit of time with Al Washington, who would be his line coach.

“I've talked to him a lot over calls, but this was the first time meeting him in person,” he said of Washington. “It was great. He has a lot of energy. I got to sit down and go over some film with him. He knows a lot. He can teach well and I understand it well.”

Notre Dame football would be great fit

Simeon clearly enjoyed everything he saw during the recruiting trip. He also talked about how he could see himself being a part of the Irish football program.

I think it would fit me great. I told him [Washington] some stuff that I wanted to work on and he showed me some game film about reading blocks and getting off blocks. I got to see that at the highest level. I got to see how they work it, what they do. It was really cool.

It’s clear that Notre Dame football has made some great first steps. Now it’s about keeping the pressure up and making sure he remembers just how much he loved everything about this visit.
