While the Notre Dame Fighting Irish baseball season wasn't all that great, fans, players, and coaches are getting to root for one of their own as he begins his major-league baseball career. On Saturday night, Niko Kavadas put an exclamation point on the beginning of that career.

Kavadas got his first major league hit. It was quite the doozy. Not many players in the history of the game can say that the first time they got a hit, it left the park.

The former Notre Dame Fighting Irish star is now among those who can make that claim. The current Los Angeles Angels rookie got his first hit by bashing a three-run home run. Unfortunately, even with his first career hit, he couldn't lead an Angels team that continues to circle the drain to victory.

Kavadas' first hit wasn't just the first of his career. When he laced the three-run home run to left field, he also ended a pretty nasty drought since he was called up by the Angels.

To start his rookie year, he's just 1-for-15. Those RBI were also the first of his career. It's the kind of boost that can help those who might be worrying about whether or not they belong in the majors.

The first baseman, who has only played DH at the major league level can also take solace in the fact that he hasn't been completely overwhelmed. While he hasn't been getting hits, he has drawn two walks.

His strikeouts also haven't been that bad, considering the complete and total lack of hits. He does have eight in his 15 at-bats. While he's going to want to reduce that as his career goes on, but for someone getting off to the start he has, it's not too concerning.

The former Notre Dame Fighting Irish star ended up getting his rookie shot after being traded to the Angels at the MLB deadline. The infielder was sent to the Angels alongside fellow Red Sox farmhands outfielder Matthew Lugo and pitchers Yeferson Vargas and Ryan Zeferjahn in exchange for hard throwing righty, Luis Garcia.
