  • One analyst believes the people around the QB are why.

The Notre Dame football team has had Deuce Knight in the fold for quite a while now. That’s despite the fact that the Mississippi-based quarterback has been getting pursued by some of the best teams in the SEC

While Notre Dame football fans would like to think it’s simply the draw of the program that has the quarterback prospect so locked in, at least one recruiting analyst believes it has more to do with the people around the talented player.

Recruiting analyst Brian Smith, of All Hurricanes appeared on the Locked On Irish Podcast last week where he talked about why Knight has stuck with Notre Dame through the entire recruiting cycle to date.

“I don't think it's so much Notre Dame,” Smith said. “It's just the person they're recruiting slash the people around them. I'm going to leave it at that.
I can't go into a whole lot, but I mean, the people around you are the people that you are, and sometimes it's not even what you want it to be. So I think he has pretty good people around him. He's a kid that fits Notre Dame.”

Notre Dame football commit is a different breed

As part of the reason why Smith thinks that Knight is a different kind of person, he told a story of the quarterback making it clear he wasn’t going to take any more recruiting visits. Smith admitted that it’s possible Knight was just telling him what he wanted to hear.

On the other hand, the recruiting analyst added that the Notre Dame football commit told another reporter something similar. So it’s not as though the signal-caller tells a different story depending on who he’s talking to.

That isn’t to say that Knight won’t eventually decide that the SEC is a better fit, but at the moment, it appears he’s staying strong. And Brian Smith believes that because of the person he is and who the people around him are, the highly-touted prospect will stick to his guns.
