Notre Dame Fighting Irish News: Doling out a very interesting PWO, more
- The Notre Dame Fighting Irish offered a Cornell star a PWO.
- Xavier Watts is growing into a leader.
- Elijah Burress is impressing.
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish has ramped up its recruiting something fierce over the last few weeks. For the most part, the recruiting has aimed squarely at 2026 recruits as part of the Pot of Gold offers that went out on St. Patrick's Day.
However, one of the Notre Dame football team's latest offers is an interesting one for different reasons entirely.
Anthony Chideme-Alfaro reported over the weekend that he'd received an offer from Marcus Freeman and company as a Preferred Walk-On or PWO. While Notre Dame doesn't hand out PWO offers all that often, it's not unheard of. That's not why the offer to Chideme-Alfaro stands out.
This particular offer is interesting most of all because it isn't going out to a high school kid. Rather it's going out to a guy who played the 2023 season at Cornell.
Chideme-Alfaro is going to be a grad transfer with two years of eligibility. He's also a defensive back that is considered one of the better at his position in the FCS ranks.
He didn't put up eye-popping numbers in 8 games last year, but he did log 18 tackles and 3 pass breakups. It will be interesting to see if the Notre Dame Fighting Irish win his services.

Former Notre Dame Football receiver Equanimeous St. Brown has found a new NFL home. Earlier this week, he signed a new deal with the New Orleans Saints. Last season he played just 7 games for the Chicago Bears, hauling down 5 catches for 62 yards. He'll be looking for a better 2024 on a new team, his third since entering the NFL in 2018 and first outside the NFC North.
Xavier Watts is already one of the best players on the Irish. Now he's looking to take on more of a leader role with his team in his final season. Bryan Driskell wrote about how Watts continues to grow into someone Notre Dame Fighting Irish fans can be proud of.
Elijah Burress is one of the most recent Notre Dame Fighting Irish football commits. This weekend, he was showing off some of the skills that have Marcus Freeman and wide receivers coach Mike Brown excited to get Burress to South Bend.
