Notre Dame Fighting Irish baseball routs FIU to stay undefeated
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish baseball team continued to show off an offense that has carried the school to a 4-0 start to the season. On Friday night, the team opened a series against Florida International and finished the evening with it’s fourth win of the year.
The Irish hit four homers on the way to the series-opening win over FIU. Right at the top of the list as to why was outfielder TJ Williams who had two home runs in his first career multi-homer game.
While the offense continues to be a bright spot for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, the pitching staff continues to be full of question marks. However, it looks like head coach Shawn Stiffler might be finding the right mix from his bullpen.
Bennett Flynn entered the game after both starting pitcher Caden Spivey and reliever Radek Birkholz struggled to keep FIU down while allowing 4 earned runs in 5.1 innings. Bennett Flynn entered the game when it was still in doubt and was able to hold the Panthers down and got the win by striking out two in 1.2 innings and not allowing a run.
Meanwhile, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish offense continued up its assault. The team scored 13 runs thanks to Williams and Connor Hincks and his 3 RBI.

The win over FIU on Friday was the second straight game in which Notre Dame has scored 13 runs. They have scored less than 9 runs just once so far this season.
For the moment, it appears that the Fighting Irish are going to continue to need their offense to carry them as the pitching continues to try and find its footing. No Notre Dame Fighting Irish starting pitcher has managed to get past the 4th inning so far this season.
They’re going to need a pitcher to go deeper on Saturday, as they’ll play a doubleheader against Florida International startting at 2pm South Bend time.
