The Notre Dame Fighting Irish basketball team might have had a less than stellar season, but it’s clear that head coach Micah Shrewsberry is working hard to make sure the badness of the 2023-24 campaign is not going to be happening again.

Shrewsberry has been going after prospects quite a bit over the last few weeks and it’s clear he’s aiming high. That includes an offer for one of the absolute best players in the class in Anthony Thompson.

Thompson just reported that he received an offer from the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. It’s far from the only offer he’s going to receive before national signing day. And it’s far from the only one he’s received so far.

The 2026 prospect has actually attracted significant attention in the basketball community. Thompson has received offers from several prestigious colleges, including Illinois, Ohio State, and Cincinnati, among others. His versatility and athleticism on the court make him a valuable prospect for any team.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish wade into the fight for top small forward

There should be no doubt that it’s going to be a heck of a fight for the Ohio prospect. He’s considered the best prospect in the state as well as the 11th best player in the class according to 247Sports.

Thompson isn’t so highly sought after because of what he does on the court, but he’s also considered a very good kid.

"He’s incredibly humble," Lebanon athletic director Keith Pantling told a local news station. "He’s going to leave quite the legacy at Lebanon because of who he is and how he conducts himself, not just his highlight reel and national recruitment."

That’s just one of the reasons that the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are going hard after Anthony Thompson. Now it’s about finding a way to actually get their foot in the door beyond the offer.
