It’s easy to forget that family can play a big part in Notre Dame football recruiting. While the Irish are killing off narratives that they can’t recruit certain players, it’s important to realize it’s not all about winning over the kids who are coming to South Bend. It’s all about winning over the people around them as well.

That Marcus Freeman and company are winning over the families of guys like Dallas Golden is a big thing. It’s the kind of thing that stands out to some, even though it is indeed easy to forget how important it is. After all, when they’re being recruited, these are 17 and 18-year-old kids by and large.

Notre Dame football is the perfect fit for Dallas Golden, according to his dad

A recently conversation with Irish Sports Daily and Dallas Golden’s father, Pelham underlines just how important it is in the recruiting battle that parents are on board. That talk also underlined quite well that the Notre Dame football coaching staff did a heck of a job selling the program to Pelham and his 4-star cornerback son.

“I think it's a great fit for him; just the culture, the coaches, it is just a great fit for him,” Pelham Golden told Irish Sports Daily

“We always felt the way they recruited him, we felt that we were always a priority. We're just blessed that we're a part of the Notre Dame family now.”

It was clear from the conversation that Pelham also liked the actual fit of the campus and the school and not just how the Irish coaches meshed with his son.

“We come from a small private school, Berkeley Prep. Not a lot of students. I'm telling you, Berkeley and Notre Dame eerily remind me of each other; a great group of kids, great academics and all solid sports programs. Just the culture.”
