Notre Dame football continues advanced analytics approach with new hire
Since Marcus Freeman arrived in South Bend, there has been a lot of talk about how he’s making the Notre Dame football program his own. That may not have been on display more than it was Saturday afternoon with the creation of a new staff position that has to do with advanced analytics.
Most of Freeman’s hires have come on the recruiting front. Some of those hires have even made Fighting Irish history with the way they’ve been hired and what positions they’ve taken.
But Saturday is just quite a bit different as the Notre Dame football program announced it has hired PFF’s Anthony Treash as the program’s Director of Analytics. FootballScoop was the first to have the news and correctly pointed out that it’s yet another move to make the Irish more of an NFL-looking front office.
Notre Dame football has a chief analytics director now
Treash, who's been a key figure Pro Football Focus (PFF), will work closely with General Manager Chad Bowden and Matt Jansen, Notre Dame's director of scouting.
Jansen also owns significant NFL experience. The new hire shows that the Irish are not going to leave any stone unturned when it comes to trying to make sure they’re among the top programs in the country.
The addition of Treash comes just on the heels of several other notable personnel developments for Notre Dame.
Notre Dame football continues staff reshuffle
Freeman and Bowden elevated Zaire Turner into the role of director of player personnel, and the duo quickly pounced to rehire the well-regarded Caleb Davis from Troy after Davis had been tabbed as co-general manager in Gerad Parker's program.
While the focus this time of year is almost always on the field, it’s clear Notre Dame football knows that what goes on behind the scenes is plenty important. The program continues to reshape how it operates since the departure of Brian Kelly.
