Anyone who was hoping that Notre Dame football would come out of the tunnel firing on all cylinders was likely pretty disappointed by the performance on both offense and defense to start against Texas A&M.

While Al Golden’s unit was definitely the sharper unit of the two, they routinely committed penalties that would allow Texas A&M to get out of jams and continue drives that should have been stopped in their tracks.

The offense, while it had a few plays here and there that worked, while Riley Leonard showed that he is healthy with several different designed runs, struggled to find any rhythm at all.

And then, Adon Shuler happened. As it looked like the Texas A&M Aggies were finally seizing some momentum, Connor Weigman overthrew his receiver badly and Shuler was there to record the interception.

It just happened to be his the first pick of his career.

Notre Dame football gets momentum boost from Adon Shuler

The Notre Dame defense has been close to a few turnovers in the first half in a tough battle vs. Texas A&M. Shuler gave the Notre Dame football team its first momentum shift of the game - leading to a field goal to tie it up.

The game against the Aggies looks like it’s the start of something big for Shuler. Coaches have talked him up something fierce in fall camp.

He’s won the starting job in the Notre Dame footbal defensive backfield. He’s off to a heck of a start to a season that’s incredibly important for the Fighting Irish.
