One Notre Dame football commit is happier than most about Matty Augustine
It’s safe to say there are plenty of people around the Notre Dame football program that are happy about the Tuesday commitment of offensive tackle Matty Augustine. However, one guy's joy over the morning announcement stands out, considering that he’s going to be playing alongside the Connecticut native once they both get to South Bend.
Not long after Augustine announced he was committing to the Fighting Irish, 2025 quarterback commit Deuce Knight took to social media to show how happy he was.
“Great day to be a Notre Dame Quarterback,” Knight wrote. He then added his own personal hashtag that appears to have been created simply for the run the Irish have been on when it comes to commits of late, #wellprotected.
Knight’s little celebration that the Notre Dame football team added another offensive lineman to the 2025 recruiting class didn’t go unnoticed by another offensive lineman who recently committed to the Irish in Owen Strebig.
Teamed with Strebig and Augustine in the last couple of weeks is the commitment of another Connecticut offensive lineman in the form of Will Black. In all, the Notre Dame football team isn’t just filling out its 2025 class well ahead of signing day; it’s also being very deliberate in what positions they want and who will fill their last few slots.

In getting three offensive linemen in the 2025 class, it looks like the guys who are going to be protecting Deuce Knight when he gets to campus is shaping up quite nicely. His comment also seems to indicate he’s having at least a little impact on who chooses the Notre Dame football team when it comes to recruiting.
He certainly hasn’t been shy about doing some peer recruiting. Whether Matty Augustine committed to the Notre Dame football team because of the coaches or the efforts of Deuce Knight, he becomes the 17th pledge of the 2025 cycle. And it’s not even March yet.
