Notre Dame football experience for 4-star corner 'didn't look real'

While we’re about five months away from Notre Dame football locking down its 2025 recruiting class, it’s also working quite hard on the 2026 class. That includes 4-star cornerback J'Zavien Currence. 

The DB was recently in South Bend, and to say he was impressed with what he saw would be an understatement. The corner appears to have been blown away to the point where he could barely believe what he was seeing.

"It didn't look real," Currence told Tyler James of his Notre Dame football visit. "Like looking at the Golden Dome, it didn't look real."

That’s certainly a very nice step. Now the Fighting Irish just needs to keep the pressure up and reel in one of the best defensive backs in the 2026 class. Of course, to do that, they’re going to need to fight off some serious SEC power teams.

Notre Dame football visit from 4-star corner is ‘not real’

J'Zavien Currence, a sophomore at South Pointe High School, in South Carolina, has showcased his versatility and skill on both sides of the ball. Defensively, he accumulated 50 solo tackles and a total of 103 tackles in 2023.  He also had 5 interceptions and caused 1 fumble. 

Offensively, Currence has contributed as a passer, rusher, and receiver. He completed 5-of-9 passing attempts for 70 yards and 2 touchdowns. On the ground, he rushed 9 times for 39 yards, scoring 2 touchdowns. As a receiver, he made 3 catches for 27 yards, according to MaxPreps

Among the schools that have offered him, in addition to the Notre Dame football team, are Clemson, South Carolina, Ohio State, USC, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, Florida State, and many, many others.

Now that he’s been offered and taken an unofficial visit, it’s all about Mike Mickens roping the talented corner in.
