Notre Dame football making strong push for 4-star LB

The Notre Dame football team would love to land the highly touted linebacker.

Gavin Nix likes what he saw from the Fighting Irish.

Having ramped up its recruiting since Pot of Gold Day, the Notre Dame football team just had a very big visitor in town. 4-star Bradenton linebacker Gavin Nix was in South Bend earlier this week and it was the first time he checked out what the Fighting Irish had to offer since last fall.

Nix was quite impressed by what he saw and he told Irish Breakdown that the visit was everything he hoped it would be.

“It was great to get back to South Bend,” Nix said. “There weren’t many recruits on campus so I really got a chance to have a lot more one-on-one opportunities with the coaches this time.”

One of the most interesting things about the way that Marcus Freeman and company have been carrying out recruiting is that they seem to push every button correctly. People around the program have noticed that the culture in South Bend is different than it has been in the past.

All of that one-on-one time with the coaches wasn’t just about getting a tour of the best computer lab classrooms either. Nix said that he was able to sit down with guys like new linebacker coach Max Bullough and get into the nitty-gritty of the defense.

Notre Dame football knows how to woo linebacker Gavin Nix

“He showed how I would be used as a MIKE and WILL in the defense. They see me as a playmaker who can create some big plays all over the field.”

While Nix liked what he was able to do and see in South Bend, it doesn’t appear that recruiting analysts believe the Notre Dame football team is the squad to beat just yet. On3 has Nix with a very good shot at landing with Florida.

Should he not go there, the site sees him picking another of the Florida schools.

Of course, that may be a blessing in disguise. If he decides he wants to get a little space between himself and his home state, Notre Dame football could step up.
