Notre Dame football target shows off big play skills ahead of South Bend visit
Notre Dame football recruiting at the wide receiver position hasn’t been anything like Marcus Freeman had hoped. The Irish have struggled mightily for reasons that don’t present themselves easily.
However, when you’re a school that is viewed in the way the Irish are, you have lots of options when Plan A, Plan B and Plan C all fall through. And that’s why when they take on the Louisville Cardinals today, they’ll also be hosting several high profile prospects.
Among the the recruits coming to South Bend on Saturday is wide receiver Isaiah Mizell. But before Mizell came to town, he had some business to take care of for his high school team. In the process, he showed off why the Notre Dame football team is going after him.
On Friday, the Boone, Florida prospect had one particular play that showed off the kind of playmaker he can be. The clip of him catching a short dump off pass, breaking a tackle and then reversing field all so he can score a long touchdown is indeed Sportscenter highlight worthy.
Notre Dame football prospect shows why he’s a target
It is likely it’s those kind of plays that made the Arizona Wildcats push so hard to land him earlier this year. He is currently a commit to the Big 12 school, though he’s clearly looking around. And the Irish got his attention.
“I'm a priority over there,” he said of Notre Dame football to Irish Sports Daily. “They said in this recruiting class, receivers have been a weak point for them, so it seems like they need me.
He’s not wrong about the receivers being a weak point. It is interesting they’ve been so frank about that to one fo those wide receivers. He’ll get to see how he might be used on Saturday afternoon. And the Irish will go from there.
