The Notre Dame Football team already has two running back commits in the 2025 class, but it looks like the Fighting Irish wouldn’t object to getting a third. After hosting one of the best backs in the class, adding a third commitment at the position doesn’t seem out of the question.

James Simon, a 4-star prospect out of Calvary Baptist Academy in Shreveport, Louisiana has appeared a lock for LSU for quite a while. That makes the recent ground the Notre Dame Football team has made in his recruitment that much more delicision. What Irish fan or coach wouldn’t love to beat out Brian Kelly for a talented kid right in his backyard.

Simon’s visit to South Bend this past week might have even made the running back believe he needs to have Touchdown Jesus in his back yard. Speaking to Irish Breakdown, the highly touted recruit made it clear that he’s now thinking about coming back for another visit in the near future.

“They will be one that I have to think very hard about because it’s more to it to choose to go out there,” Simon explained. “They are absolutely a part of my top schools that will be a part of my final decision.”

Notre Dame Football convinces 4-star prospect to make a return visit

There’s no doubt that Marcus Freeman and company have to feel good hearing that kind of talk. As a junior, the running back was part of a state championship Calvary Baptist squad. In 14 games, he ran for 1,600 yards and 21 touchdowns while averaging 8.3 yards per carry.

He was also a threat through the air as he hauled down 20 catches for 214 yards. He added 3 more TDs as a receiver.

It’s not going to be easy to pull James Simon away from LSU. On3 currently has the Bayou Bengals as a 93 percent chance of getting his commitment. Of course, that was before the running back visited the Irish.

With 4-star prospect Justin Thurman and 3-star running back Daniel Anderson already in the fold, one has to wonder if the Notre Dame Football team really does plan on taking three running backs in the 2025 class.
