The Notre Dame football program should never forget that one of the things it has in its favor is its history. It’s a school that has movies made about it. And it’s a school that had great players come through it.
One way the Fighting Irish can use their history in their favor in recruiting is by going after legacy prospects that just happen to be among the best in the country. Such is the case with Julio Jones Jr.
The 2027 wide receiver prospect got an offer from the Notre Dame football team on Pot of Gold Day, and it’s clear that he was waiting for it. It’s an offer that is especially important to him, considering his father was one of the best running backs at the school in recent history. “My dad always said to save it for a special moment because of the mystique of the campus and just everything about it.”
Notre Dame football impresses legacy prospect with South Bend mystique
“It's something I've been looking forward to since I was little because I've grown up around Notre Dame Football,” Jones Jr. recently told Irish Sports Daily. “Just being around it, it was kind of like a milestone that I've been waiting to achieve and feeling that and getting that feeling is really something special.”
Having an in like his father playing in South Bend can’t be understated for Jones Jr. The receiver is a 4-star prospect who is the No. 1 player in Florida and No. 1 wide receiver in the class, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. He’s also the No. 12 player in the entire class.
Florida and LSU are considered the front runners at the moment, but it sure seems the Notre Dame football team has a foot in the door. The next step will be making sure he takes many, many trips to South Bend over the next year.
