This is the time of year when programs like Notre Dame football try to lock down their recruiting classes. And when you’re a program like the Fighting Irish it’s not just about filling the class with anyone. It’s about filling the class with the best possible players.

One of the best players that is still out there and can still be had just also happens to be someone who the Irish are in good standing with. They are in fact, in his Top 5. And that could mean that they’re going to close out the 2025 recruiting class with one of the best linebackers around.

The added bonus of course, is that Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng is a legacy prospect for the Notre Dame football team. He’s someone whose brother played in South Bend and then went on to the NFL. And the younger brother also clearly does like what he’s seen from Marcus Freeman and company.

The Fighting Irish are viewed as arguably the front-runner for Owusu-Boateng heading toward a decision date that hasn't been finalized. They will need to outlast a very impressive group of programs.

The former DeMatha Catholic star has been pursued by some of the top programs in the county. Some of the notable programs who have extended offers besides his finalists are LSU, Penn State, Oregon, Florida State, Texas A&M, Auburn, South Carolina, Ole Miss, Maryland, Wisconsin, Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh and Boston College among others.

He’s now down to a top 5 of Michigan, Ohio State, USC, and Notre Dame. There’s the added bonus that he was seen at a recent Rivals camp wearing the Irish hat.

It seems as though this fight is likely going to December. But it feels like Notre Dame football has the inside track.
