Following the Notre Dame football team’s big win last Saturday night, Marcus Freeman and company will get to prove one analyst right this afternoon. Many a team has fallen victim to not showing up to play against a four-touchdown underdog in a “letdown game” like the Irish are facing against Northern Illinois.

However, if Kirk Herbstreit is correct, there’s a very good chance the Blue and Gold can avoid the letdown game. That’s because the ESPN analyst believes that Freeman has an unusual relationship with his team. Especially in this day and age.

"I don't know if there is another coach that relates to the players better, genuinely, authentically, than Marcus Freeman,” Herbstreit said earlier this week. He was specifically addressing how Freeman behaved as Notre Dame football got ready to run onto the field against Texas A&M.

“They’re only going to get better with Riley Leonard at quarterback,” Herbstreit added during an appearance on the Pat McAfee show. “And that offensive line is so young. When they come together, I like the skill.”

Notre Dame football head coach gets extreme compliment from Kirk Herbstreit

Herbstreit didn’t stop there when it came to the compliments. He also talked about how the Irish are likely going to be expected to win from here on out.

You look at their schedule, probably going to be favored in every game they play. The game at the end of the year all of a sudden with USC at the LA Coliseum is a game to put at the back of your mind, but Notre Dame is mature, they got a great group together. I think they’re a team that’s going to be in the playoff without a doubt. It’s just a matter of how much better can they get and can they stay healthy because I don’t know what kind of depth they have right now.

Freeman and the Notre Dame football team will be able to prove the ESPN announcer right starting with this afternoon’s game. A previous version of the Irish might have stumbled against the Huskies. Hopefully, this version takes care of business and forges a blowout win.
