Notre Dame football offensive lineman commit gets an elite boost

The Notre Dame football team is one heck of a recruiting roll. They're having so much success these days that they don't even have to get a commit to improve their recruiting class. On Monday, the top recruiting class in 2025 got another boost when one of its recent commits was upgraded by one recruiting service from a 4-star offensive lineman to a 5-star offensive lineman.

Will Black has gotten his 5th star from On3 but his story is more impressive than that. As Mike Singer pointed out, there was a time when Black was a middle of the pack lineman, rated as the 203 rated overrall player to the number 6th player in the country.

Black is also now the number one rated offensive tackle in the entire 2025 class. That means that the Notre Dame football team keeps reeling in talented offensive linemen to protect their quarterbacks. In addition to Black, the Irish have also secured the pledge of Owen Strebig.

Notre Dame football gets a boost as Will Black gets upgraded to 5-star

It should be pointed out that On3 is quite a bit higher on Black than most of the other recruiting services. He's considered the top tackle in the country by On3 but ESPN still has him rated as a 3-star.

247 Sports lists the Irish pledge as the No. 40 tackle in the land, and Rivals has Black as the No. 35 tackle nationally.

Obviously there are going to be some discrepancies around the player rankings for all these different services. That doesn't take away from the fact that Will Black is considered one of the best of the country.

It's also of note that should the rating hold, it would mean that 2024 is the fourth straight year the Notre Dame football team has landed a 5-star offensive line prospect.
