Notre Dame football making a run at reclassified defensive back

The Notre Dame football team wants to add one more defensive back commit to it's 2024 class if that DB is Kevyn Humes.

Just when you thought the Notre Dame football team was out and done with the 2024 recruiting class, a new prospect pulls them back in. I apologize. The Godfather reference was just sitting there. I had to try it.

Poorly crafted movie references aside, the Fighting Irish are reexamining whether or not they’re really done working on the 2024 recruiting class. There is one prospect that has head coach Marcus Freeman and defensive backs coach Chris O’Leary giving it one more look.

Kevyn Humes is a defensive back who was part of the 2025 class, but has reclassified to 2024. The Notre Dame football team is plenty happy with the bodies it got earlier this month, but if it can add Humes to the heap, they’re going to do everything it can to pull it off.

Tom Loy of 247sports reported on Thursday night that the Irish are going after the DB. It certainly makes sense that they’d want to. He’s a 4-star defensive back out of Baltimore, Maryland who at least some recruiting services believe has a lean to our favorite school in South Bend.

That is likely at least somewhat based on an unofficial visit he took to Notre Dame back in October that went quite well. However, in order to lock up Kevyn Humes, Freeman and O’Leary are going to need to get him to come on another visit early next year.

According to Rivals, Humes already has a visit set up to Syracuse on January 12 and then a trip to Penn State the following week.

The next national signing day, the one where Humes is likely going to send in his NLI is on February 7. That means there is one more week where Notre Dame football could get a visit and make Kevyn Humes an offer he can’t refuse.
