If Notre Dame football recruiting thought it got a second life with the offers and commitments it got from Pot of Gold Day, then one has to wonder just how much of a jolt those efforts got on Tuesday night. The jolt in question came from one of the top wide receiver prospects in the country and the fact that he is a free agent once again.

4-star 2025 prospect Jayvan Boggs got an offer from the Notre Dame football team at the end of February, despite being a solid lean to Ohio State. It appears that solidity softened a bit over the last few weeks as Boggs announced on Tuesday night, he’d decommitted from the Buckeyes.

Now that the receiver, who is also being heavily recruited by the Georgia Bulldogs is on the market, is it possible the Notre Dame football team has an in? Marcus Freeman could hold the key.

Jayvan’s father, Brandon Boggs and Freeman were teammates in high school. That’s certainly not the strongest tie in the world. It’s not the kind of tie that is going to overcome any strong pull from Ohio State, Georgia or anywhere else, but it could be a tie-breaker.

Notre Dame football trying to pull off the flip

One of the reasons Boggs is back on the open market might have something to do with how quickly his profile has risen. He started off as the 247Sports Composite Rankings No. 362 player and now checks in as the 195th overall.

Boggs also won the  Florida Mr. Football Player of the Year after catching 93 passes for 1,500 yards and 24 total touchdowns in the 2023 season. One has to think he’s setting himself up for an even more impressive senior year of high school.

Obviously, the next step for Notre Dame football is trying to get an official visit set up. As of now, there’s been talk, but nothing set in stone.
