Last week, Notre Dame football fans who also happen to be gamers got a very nice surprise. A new teaser trailer was released for EA Sports College Football 25 and that teaser included some imagery from the Fighting Irish.

Not only was the video game series making a return after years away, but also it appeared that South Bend faithful were going to get to play as their favorite team, should they choose. On Tuesday, the school took the teaser a step further and made it clear that Notre Dame football is included in the game.

“After nearly two years of work with EA SPORTS, we’re proud to announce that our fans around the world will be able to play as the Fighting Irish in the upcoming College Football franchise,” Notre Dame AD Jack Swarbrick said in a statement his office issued.

“The work EA SPORTS is doing to provide over 11,000 college student-athletes opportunities to benefit directly from their name, image and likeness is a first-of-its-kind undertaking and we’re proud to have been involved in the process,” the statement continued.

The release might have really just been confirming what was already believed, but it was still welcome news. Especially since there was a time when the Notre Dame football program made everyone nervous while leaders talked about the possibility of not participating.

Swarbricks’s announcement comes as people start to really dream on just what they might see in EA Sports College Football 25. The teaser trailer confirmed the game is coming this summer, but didn’t say exactly when.

The teaser also let it be known that a “full reveal” will arrive in May. Though whether you’re talking early or late May is still a mystery. One also has to wonder if there might be a few dribs and drabs of info before that full reveal.

For now, we can take solace in not just guessing, but knowing that Notre Dame football will be in the game.
