Xavier Watts is coming back to the Notre Dame football program. The defensive back, who led the country in interceptions had kept the Notre Dame Fighting Irish faithful waiting and wondering about whether he was headed to the NFL, or coming back to South Bend.

He kept the fanbase waiting and hoping all through the wait for the Sun Bowl. Though there were some hints here and there that he might be on his way back.

The biggest hint of all was likely the fact that he appeared in the Riley Leonard video that announced the former Duke quarterback was transferring to Notre Dame. The video showed Watts leading Leonard around the stadium. It seemed to hint that he’d played a role in the recruitment. It was hard to think he’d done that recruiting but was moving on.

And it turns out that the hints were indeed taken correctly. One day after the Fighting Irish manhandled the Oregon State Beavers in the Sun Bowl, Watts took to social media to announce he was “running it back.”

Because the announcement was on social media, the reactions to the announcements were on social media as well. And there were plenty of reactions to be had.

"Huge news for the irish."

Notre Dame football might have three of the best defenders in the entire country

Caleb Williams might be relieved that he won't have to face off against Xavier Watts in his rookie season in the NFL.

Sometimes the reaction is just a bunch of eyeball emojis.

Another Notre Dame football fan believes that the best defender in all of college football officially announced that he's returning. That particular fan is almost certainly right, considering the honors that Xavier Watts received this season.
