Riley Leonard is officially joining the Notre Dame football team. That's the good news. But there might be even better news on the horizon, if his commitment announcement video is any indication. It's possible that the new Irish quarterback helped spill the beans on a star defensive player returning for one more season.

Leonard made quite the production of making his long awaited announcement. He used an Instagram video that he captioned it was a dream come true. The video then showed Leonard walking through Notre Dame stadium, slapping the famous sign and generally taking in the sights. At times, he was flanked by a couple of current Fighting Irish stars in Xavier Watts and Benjamin Morrison.

It was the presence of Xavier Watts that could mean something big. For now, Watts is still deciding on heading to the NFL Draft or sticking in South Bend for one more season. Depending on the day, Notre Dame football faithful are convinced he's going to come back or are convinced he's got a foot out the door.

Could the fact that he's walking around with the Fighting Irish's latest quarterback commitment be a sign he plans to be his teammate. It certainly has that feel to it. Why would Leonard put a guy in a video who isn't going to be around next year?

It is possible of course that Watts was simply one of the Golden Domers who showed Leonard around on his visit to South Bend. Considering he was one of the best defenders in the country this past season, he could make quite the pitch for the program elevating a player to the next level if nothing else.

In the coming days, Watts himself could shed some light on the situation. Hopefully, when he does, he'll be announcing a return to Notre Dame football in 2024.
