Notre Dame football suffers loss of veteran defensive back to injury
As the Notre Dame football team prepares for a big 2024 season, it’s hoping to get as healthy as possible. Of course, as they attempt to do that, they’re dealing with at least one big injury in left tackle Charles Jagusah.
While that injury is considered a massive blow, there was another player hurt announced on Saturday that is going to raise eyebrows. Even if the loss of Chance Tucker for any amount of time isn’t as big as losing Jagusah.
On Saturday, Marcus Freeman shared the news during his press conference. "Chance Tucker got injured. I don't know the extent of it." And with that, the Notre Dame football team is down a player at a valuable position, especially considering the Irish are still waiting to see if Benjamin Morrison is really all the way back.
Notre Dame football suffers injury at defensive back
That's all the Notre Dame head coach said about Tucker's injury and status. There hasn’t been any more information released on Sunday either. While it’s not a season ender, it’s far from ideal to be down Tucker, especially if it’s for any real length of time.
As camp continues to play out it has seemed more and more unlikely that Tucker would play many snaps for the Fighting Irish this season, barring serious injury to the 3-4 corners above him in the pecking order.
Between the star corner Benjamin Morrison, up-and-comer Christian Gray, key veteran Jaden Mickey and true freshman Leonard Moore, Tucker would have been relying heavily on showing out this fall camp in order to earn himself playing time this fall.
On the other hand, it’s never bad to have the kind of depth the Notre Dame football team seemed to have had before Tucker went down. There’s also been whispers that Moore might be a bit banged up. And then there’s Morrison being ahead of schedule.
