After a flurry of commitments right after Pot of Gold Day, things have been a bit quiet for Notre Dame football’s 2025 recruiting class. That changed with a big bang on Sunday afternoon. The 4-star defensive back kind of big bang.

Needing to upgrade and rebuild their defensive backfield a bit next year, the Notre Dame football team certainly took a big step in that direction with the somewhat out of nowhere commitment of Berkley Prep’s Dallas Golden.

The Top 100 prospect, according to every major recruiting site, now gives the Notre Dame football team 20 commitments in the 2025 class already. It also moved the Fighting Irish back to the top class in the country for this cycle, according to 247Sports.

Golden’s commitment might have come out of nowhere as far as timing goes, but it’s clear he’s like what Marcus Freeman and company had to offer for quite a while. The degree to which he’s talked effusively about what he saw in South Bend on what recent recruiting trip even surprised some analysts who remember an older school approach.

Now that he’s officially in the fold Dallas Golden fits into the Notre Dame football class as its highest-ranked cornerback second-highest-ranked defensive back. Ivan Taylor, a Top 100 safety is technically considered a smidge better ranked prospect.

The Irish were considered the front runner for Golden for a few weeks now, though they certainly weren’t seen as having the kind of lead that would secure a commitment from such a highly touted prospect in April.

In fact more recruiting analysts believed Florida State, among others had cut into the Irish lead. It turns out those beliefs were very misplaced.

One interesting tidbit is that the Notre Dame football team tends to see commits come in little bunches. Could the Irish be in line to land at least one more in the next few days?
