The Notre Dame football team has had a couple of injury announcements in the last few days that have been a bit of a hit to the team’s depth. Unfortunately, almost universally, the announcements have meant that the Irish players in question are also done for the season already.

Defensive back Chance Tucker was the latest to have his season end before it began. He followed offensive tackle Charles Jagusah, who was easily the biggest blow of the bunch.

On Thursday, Notre Dame football head coach Marcus Freeman addressed the media via zoom from College Station and said that two more players are out for the season. Both are freshmen. A third freshman player also has an injury, though it’s expected that he could be back at some point this season.

Notre Dame football duo are out for the season of the season

Freshman safety Taebron Bennie-Powell had surgery on his left shoulder labrum and is expected to miss the 2024 campaign. Likewise, offensive lineman Styles Prescod is undergoing surgery on a right shoulder injury and is expected to miss the season.

Freshman safety Tae Johnson underwent surgery on his fifth metatarsial bone in his foot. Of the three announcements, it looks like Johnson is the only one who could come back this year and actually play.

Johnson is a former 4-star safety out of Fort Wayne who saw offers from programs like Cincinnati, Colorado and Auburn before he chose Notre Dame as his school.

Bennie Powell is a former 3-star safety out of West Chester, OH and Prescod is a rather massive former 4-star offensive lineman out of Fishers, Indiana.

Of the three, Johnson has long appeared to be the one who had the best chance to see action in 2024. While the surgery on his foot is obviously going to set that back, it doesn’t look as thought it’s been entirely ruled out.

Meanwhile, the Notre Dame football team will continue prepping for what could be the biggest game of the year against Texas A&M without them.
