Just when you thought the Deuce Knight soap opera with Notre Dame football was just about over, there’s another couple of feet of railway. While this story has had lots of ups and downs for Irish fans, it appears we’re seeing another “up.”

This past weekend, at least one recruiting analyst believed that Knight would commit to the Auburn Tigers. The commitment was expected to be coming this weekend. But it never did.

That despite the fact the still Notre Dame football commit had taken several visits to Auburn in the last month. But suddenly it looks like the Irish are back in the game. In fact, they might be considered the front runners again.

It’s a heck of a change of sentiment after months of analysts believing that Knight is all but gone. The belief that he was gone, of course, is despite the fact that for now, he’s still very much a commit.

Notre Dame football might keep prized commit after all

On3’s Steve Wiltfong gave a short update on Knight earlier on Tuesday and it certainly doesn’t sound bad for the Irish.

“I think he certainly sees an opportunity to play right away for Auburn,” Wilftong began. “And that's certainly an opportunity for him to come in and compete and play with a nice group of young receivers. And he has the skill set that Hugh Freeze is looking to be successful with at the quarterback position.”

Sounds pretty good for Auburn right? Not so fast my friend.

“I think he's going to visit Notre Dame for the Stanford game,” Wiltfong continued. “I'm hearing that that visit is in play, so I expect him back in South Bend for the first time since the summer.”

“He took a couple visits to Notre Dame in the spring and summer. I expect him back for the Stanford game, so we'll see what that means in his recruitment. Does he shut it down before that?”

The Stanford game isn’t all that far away. The Notre Dame football team takes on the Cardinal on October 12. However, if Knight waits that long to change teams, it seems as if Marcus Freeman and the company might be in line to lock down a commit, which many thought they’d already lost.
