Just when Notre Dame football fans thought the Deuce Knight drama was over, it ramped up again big time this past week. And the biggest problem with that, is there’s a new team in the race. A new team that even got an official visit on the books.

The SEC has been a thorn in the side of the Fighting Irish for quite a while in regards to Deuce Knight. However, the school that’s been the biggest problem is Ole Miss. Now, the Auburn Tigers are in the picture as well.

While Notre Dame football still has Deuce on lockdown for now, there are real rumblings that massive amounts of NIL money could eventually sway him to Auburn. Those piles of cash were already used to get him on campus last weekend.

Notre Dame football could have Deuce Knight problem brewing

Things are unfolding rather quickly this week but what has become obvious is that Auburn and Deuce Knight is not a light flirtation. The Tigers are all-in trying to land the Notre Dame commit.

That includes reports that several current commits to the SEC school are working hard to pull off some serious peer recruiting.

None of this is totally unexpected. The 4-star quarterback has been open about the fact that while he’s committed to the Irish, he knows that college football these days is a sport and a business.

What this means for Notre Dame football is still an open question. There are some who believe Marcus Freeman and company never had the resources to compete with the SEC, in regards to money. Others want to take his word for it and understand the new reality is that even committed players take visits to other schools. We won’t fully know the story until Deuce Knight signs on the dotted line in December.
