Notre Dame football has been on such a roll recruiting wise, it can feel as though Marcus Freeman is untouchable. That he can’t be beat. That the team is just going to cruise to the finish line.
Freeman and his coaches might be getting a dose of reality this week as other teams start to take notice of the talented players the Irish are bringing in. For instance, the Georgia Bulldogs have taken aim at one ND commit and it could set off a good old fashion recruiting fight.
Notre Dame commit Thomas Davis Jr. now on Georgia’s radar
Notre Dame coaches have to be a little bit worried about Kirby Smart coming calling for linebacker commit Thomas Davis Jr. After all, the 4-star commit out of North Carolina has deep ties to Athens. His father, Thomas Davis Sr was an All-American at Georgia.
The elder Davis played for the Bulldogs from 2002-2004 and then forged himself a successful NFL career. It’s a safe bet that he’s feeling some serious pride in seeing his son suddenly get more attention from his alma mater.
The real question now is whether Notre Dame having the kind of commitment list they do for the 2026 class might work in their favor. Davis is a member of one of the best classes in the country. Most every recruiting site has them higher than Georgia.
There’s also the fact that the Fighting Irish went to the National Championship game and beat Smart’s squad en route. Freeman and almost will point to his team being better positioned to win it all in the next year or two.
Still, this is one race to watch. The Notre Dame football team has some insane momentum this spring. The last thing the coaching staff wants to suddenly deal with is losing someone who has been a commit since November of last year.
