The Notre Dame football team has depth issues at wide receiver going into the 2022 college football season, but they could be set moving forward.

When it comes to the 2022 Notre Dame football team, you have to like the explosive options they have on offense. Tight end Michael Mayer is the best in the country at his position, and the running back room is deep and talented.

However, when you look at the wide receiver group, they have talented weapons, make no mistake, but they are lacking depth in bodies. With only one recruit coming in via the 2022 recruiting class in Tobias Merriweather, veterans are going to be expected to step up, and two key players, Avery Davis and Braden Lenzy are both graduate students.

In 2023, the position group could see a major influx of talent, as the Irish are one of the leaders for elite wideout Carnell Tate. In addition, the Notre Dame football team could be a player for Braylon James, a top-100 player from Texas who is the 12th ranked wide receiver in the country for the 2023 cycle.

Notre Dame football could be loaded at WR in 2023

Merriweather is a highly-touted prospect, and he should get some good experience as a true freshman this season, much like Lorenzo Styles Jr. got in 2021. Speaking of Styles, he has superstar written all over him, and played at an elite level on the biggest stage last season, breaking out against Oklahoma State in the Fiesta Bowl.

When you also consider Jayden Thomas and Deion Colzie should get some good playing time this season, the Notre Dame football team could be loaded at wide receiver in 2023 if they can get Tate and James. Notre Dame has talented quarterbacks on the roster, a loaded offensive line, and a ton of elite backs in the fold, so if they can improve at wide receiver, Tommy Rees is going to have a dangerous unit on his hands.
