Notre Dame football is expected to have two of its top weapons return for its game against Louisville, a game that will be another Top 25 tilt.

Notre Dame football fans who were a bit dismayed to see the offense struggle as much as it did against Duke, can apparently breath a sigh of relief this afternoon. The Fighting Irish are expected to get back two of their best weapons for Saturday night’s contest against the Louisville Cardinals.

During Notre Dame football head coach Marcus Freeman’s Monday morning press conference, he let the cat out of the bag. The two top Irish receivers are expected to play next weekend.

Both Jayden Thomas and Jaden Greathouse ran and worked out on Sunday afternoon. Freeman thinks that without setbacks, they’ll be “full go” against newly-ranked Louisville.

The two receivers, who are currently second and third on the team in catches, were both inactive for the game against Duke. Their absence was certainly felt as quarterback Sam Hartman had trouble finding open receivers at times.

It’s a safe bet neither being able to play is one of the big reasons Notre Dame football went just 3-for-15 on third down conversions.

Before getting banged up in the Ohio State game, both Thomas and Greathouse were off to stellar starts to the season. Thomas had just one catch for seven yards against Ohio State, but he’d had four catches in every game prior.

On the season he’s got 13 catches for 195 yards and a touchdown. He’s also got one carry for 10 yards.

Greathouse did have 2 catches for 40 yards and a carry for 3 yards in the clash against OSU. On the season, he’s now got 12 catches for 166 yards and 3 touchdowns for Notre Dame football.

In addition to Jayden Thomas and Jaden Greathouse, Freeman said that tight end Eli Raridon and linebacker Nolan Ziegler could be back for the Louisville game as well.

Notre Dame football injury updates weren’t all good news. Freeman also said that wide receiver Matt Salerno isn’t expected back anytime soon. He could be ready for the postseason. A fourth receiver, KK Smith is not expected back in 2023.
