Notre Dame Football: Will Howard not looking toward South Bend
Kansas State’s Will Howard is one of the top portal QBs so far, but it doesn’t look like he’s currently considering the Notre Dame football team.
As the Notre Dame football team changes its focus from 2023 to 2024, one of the biggest items on the agenda is trying to figure out who will replace Sam Hartman under center.
Head coach Marcus Freeman has made it clear that at least one of the competitors for that job will be coming from the transfer portal. The big question now is just how could it be.
One player that might have seemed like the perfect fit for the job is now-former Kansas State quarterback Will Howard. Howard announced earlier this week that he’s headed for the portal and considering the career he’s had with the Wildcats it felt like someone who could step into the gap and offer the kind of leadership Hartman did.
Now it’s looking like that won’t actually be the case. At least according to recruiting analysts who are working hard to already cover all the comings and goings of the portal. Whether it’s the Notre Dame football team not showing an interest, or Howard being the one who doesn’t feel it would be a fit, there are reportedly five schools on his list.
The Fighting Irish are not among them.
Notre Dame football not a contender for Will Howard
According to On3’s Pete Nakos, the five schools who are most likely to land the Kansas State transfer are Washington, Louisville, Missouri, Kentucky and Auburn. Another school that seemed to be a perfect fit in Nebraska is also apparently not a contender for the signal caller’s services.
Certainly a lot could happen before now and the day that Howard announces what school he’s going to next. However, for now it appears that Notre Dame football is still gunning for one quarterback in particular.
