The Notre Dame football team has secured two starting wide receivers for the 2024 class, now it just needs to get the guy to throw to them.

On Sunday afternoon, the Fighting Irish landed their second wide receiver from the transfer portal this week. Former Clemson Tigers star Beaux Collins announced he’s playing in South Bend next season.

He joins FIU transfer Kris Mitchell who committed earlier in the week. In getting both players this soon, Marcus Freeman and company have found a way to rebound quickly.

It also makes the concerns over guys like Chris Tyree entering the portal right after the regular season quite a bit less. In all, three receivers entered the portal in the span of a couple of days.

Notre Dame football has now not only replaced them, but upgraded the receiver room. It seems unlikely Freeman will go after another transfer receiver what with the young talent coming in from the 2024 recruiting class.

Cam Williams, Logan Saldate, and Micah Gilbert are all going to have a chance to contribute early and often. Assuming the Golden Domers are able to get a certain quarterback to South Bend, it sure feels like the passing game has a chance to improve greatly over 2023.

Notre Dame football adds another weapon

As for Beaux Collins, the Irish got a wide receiver that amassed 91 catches for 1,290 yards and 11 touchdowns over three seasons. Last year saw a career high 38 catches for 510 yards. Those numbers despite the fact that the Tigers were transitioning at quarterback.

The catches and yards would both be team highs for the Fighting Irish if he’d put them up in South Bend this season. It’s a big reason why Freeman and new wide receiver coach Mike Brown are looking at bringing in new players.

Now the Notre Dame football team does indeed need to go out and get itself a new quarterback.
