The Notre Dame football team looks like they’re not done with two WR transfer commitments as they’re suddenly players for a former Wake Forest receiver.

It’s made sense to go to Wake Forest well before. Now that Sam Hartman is moving on, why not return there? This time for a player on the other end of a potent passing game.

That might be a at least part of the reason why it looks like the Fighting Irish are going after former Demon Deacon star, Jahmal Banks. The fact that Notre Dame continues to want a toehold in the ACC is likely a factor as well.

Whatever the reasons for why the Irish are going after Banks, what is clear is that Marcus Freeman and company aren’t done shopping for wide receivers in the transfer portal.

According to 247Sports’ Tom Loy, the Irish are one of a handful of teams in hot pursuit for Banks. However, this particular contest isn’t the one-team race the recruitment of Riley Leonard has seemingly been since the portal opened.

According to Loy, Michigan, Vanderbilt, Minnesota, Purdue, Wisconsin, West Virginia, Georgia Tech, Boston College, and (yes) Charlotte are all going after Banks quite hard. It’s hard to make sense of who might be in the front of the pack with that eclectic group.

Notre Dame football pursuing another receiver

On the one hand, it makes sense why the Irish are going after Banks. He led the Demon Deacons in receptions (59) and yards (653) and he was tied for the team lead in touchdown catches with 4.

The question has to be, how many transfer receivers does Freeman want to bring in? He’s already got Beaux Collins and Kris Mitchell.

He’s also got freshmen receivers in Logan Saldate, Cam Williams and others. At some point, one has to think that the Notre Dame football coaching staff is going to want to lean on an exceptional recruiting class. Perhaps not just yet though.
