For the last few days, there have been rumblings that the Notre Dame baseball team was brewing up something big. On Wednesday, just what was going on was unveiled when slugger Ace Sapp announced his commitment to the Fighting Irish.
Sapp is a member of the 2027 class and has played both shortstop and outfield out of Las Vegas, Nevada. At 6-foot, 2-inch and 180 pounds, the younger Sapp is one of the better prospects in the country, and is a nice recruiting win for the Irish baseball team.
Notre Dame baseball lands legacy recruit Ace Sapp
The legacy commit is the son of Notre Dame great Gerome Sapp. The elder member of the family played in South Bend from 1999 to 2003 and was then a sixth-round pick by the Baltimore Ravens. The defensive back played five seasons and racked up 106 tackles, 2 sacks, and a fumble recovery.
Sap joins the Notre Dame baseball team after the program started to generate a bit of buzz towards the end of last season. That buzz has continued into the fall.
The high schooler participated in multiple high-level camps and events, and now that he's playing for Bishop Gorman, he'll face some of the best competition for the remainder of his high school career. While he did leave his previous high school this off-season, Sapp went on a high note, helping them win a state championship.
Now, while Ace Sapp has taken a very different path than his father did, he'll follow in his Notre Dame footsteps and bring a very talented player to South Bend.
