Notre Dame Fighting Irish news: A draft blow, a rising star, and one glaring concern

Notre Dame baseball loses a key piece to the MLB, Jeremiyah Love stays humble, and tight end becomes a problem area.

While the 2025 MLB Draft is always good news for the players who are selected, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish baseball team got a bit of bad news. Shortstop Estevan Moreno was drafted in the 20th round. Although that round is not a guarantee that a player will reach the Majors, Moreno is taking his shot and is signing with the Seattle Mariners.

While it's obviously good news for Moreno, it means the Notre Dame baseball team has to find a new starting shortstop. Over the last three years, Moreno hit 30 home runs, tallied 107 RBI, and posted a career fielding percentage of .960, making him someone the Irish cannot afford to lose because of his offense and his defense.

Jeremiyah Love makes it clear he's looking for Notre Dame Fighting Irish success over a Heisman

Jeremiyah Love has been getting all kinds of ... love this offseason, and most of that is because of what people expect him to do on the field. However, his response when asked about the chance he'll win a Heisman is the reason he's getting so much love today.

"I'm really focused on how I can help my team, how I can better myself as an athlete," the Notre Dame Fighting Irish star reportedly said. "If that ends up with me winning the Heisman, that's great, but that's not really my priority."

Tight end is an 'area of concern' for Notre Dame football

While there are plenty of areas considered strengths for Marcus Freeman, one area that ESPN has pinpointed as an "area of concern" could hinder their march to the National Championship. That position is tight end, as the squad reloads after Mitchell Evans moved on to the NFL.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish will need to find someone to step up quickly if they want to really get the offense going. Especially with a new starting quarterback under center, no matter who that might be.
