Anyone who has played football at Notre Dame will say there are several undeniable benefits to time spent in South Bend. There’s a chance to compete for a national title. There’s the chance to play at one of the most storied programs in the sport, and there’s the learning that’s done off the field for when the playing days are done. However, former Irish defensive back Benjamin Morrison has another idea of what benefited him the most.
Morrison, who is now a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, recently talked about how Notre Dame prepared him for life at the next level and how playing in South Bend made it easier for him to transition to the NFL.
Benjamin Morrison credits Notre Dame for shaping him on and off the field
The former Notre Dame football star recently spoke to Tyler Horka about what he feels the Irish did for him to get him ready to play for the Bucs. He was pretty clear that he felt as though he wouldn’t be anywhere near ready for the next level if not for his time as a Golden Domer.
“I mean, it's a national stage every single week…” Morrison started. “I opened up my first ever game at 18 years old playing Ohio State. Ended up playing that game. So for me, it just prepared me to go against the best.”
“You got to look at the guys that I've gone against in college, different body types who are excelling in the NFL at a high level,” the former Notre Dame star added. “So for me, it gave me that wide variety of different receivers.”
Morrison also talked about growing up during his years in South Bend.
“Just the man that Notre Dame kind of molded me to be. I went there a boy and came out a man. Just through my coaching staff, the people around me, even my players. I mean, having guys like Cam Hart and even Kyle Hamilton coming back to school, just seeing the way they operate, it's inspiring for a young kid like me. And I was like, I want to be like that one day.”
The good news for Benjamin Morrison is that he will be the kind of guy who excels in the NFL. And he will return to Notre Dame and help the next generation of players do the same growing up.
