Jack Kiser had himself quite the game for the Notre Dame football team against Navy. Not only did he have 9 tackles in the 51-14 win, but he had 1 TFL and a fumble recovery. Of course, it seemed as if everyone on the defense was going to have a fumble recovery.
The Irish forced 6 turnovers by Navy in the form of 1 interception and five fumbles.
Kiser’s performance has him sitting with 43 tackles on the year, as well as a forced fumble and his first fumble recovery of the season. After the game, he talked about how he felt after the game as well as what he thought led to that performance.
Notre Dame football’s Jack Kiser talks the Navy game
About the turnovers they forced on Saturday
“Yeah, I mean, that's always the key to the game is the defense has to wreak havoc on the ball and get the ball and create opportunities for offense. But you look at all phases of the game, I think we were able to do that. From special teams to defense, obviously, and then our offense taking advantage of it when they had it.”
About how hard it was to stop Navy quarterback Blake Horvath
“Yeah, I mean, any time you play a triple option team like Navy who runs it so well, it's gonna be a difficult task. And then when you add in the dynamic player he is and his abilities, it makes it really tough. But we just said, everybody has to do their job, everybody has to be where they need to be to stop someone like that.”
“And I mean, he hurt us early and so we had to calm down and kind of make sure we were doing everything right.”
On how the younger guys did against Navy
“Yeah, I mean, film never lies. So when we turn that on, we'll see how everybody did. But gut reaction was for being in our young room, felt like everybody was assignment sound, everybody knew what was going on. They were able to slow the game down and realize what their responsibility was, which is the most important part. Can't let all the smoke and mirrors confuse you. So gut reaction, I think we did a really good job with that, especially like you said with such a young room.”
“That's very encouraging to see that, especially against a tough task like Navy. But yeah, like I said, the film doesn't lie, so we'll see.”
It stands to reason that when Jack Kiser and the rest of the Notre Dame football team looks at the film, they’ll like what they see.
