While there are plenty of guys on the Notre Dame football team that are getting all kinds of headlines, especially the quarterback position. However, there’s one player that hasn’t gotten a ton of headlines until lately. Jaden Greathouse is drawing quite a few rave reviews.
Greathouse was a guy who was under the radar during the regular season last year. However, once the playoffs started, he suddenly looked like the leader on the field the Irish had been billing him as for a few years.
Now that he’s announced his presence with authority to the general public, talking heads are talking about the possibility of Greathouse being a breakout star for the Notre Dame football team. Cound the wideout’s head coach among those joining the chorus.
Marcus Freeman discussed a wide range of subjects with various members of the Irish beat on Thursday. One such subject was his expectations for Greathouse in the 2025 season, and he didn’t pull any punches.
“What Riley [Leonard] and what we learned toward the end of that season is that if Jaden Greathouse is covered one-on-one, he’s not covered,” Freeman said with a smile. “Throw him the ball. He’s able to make some catches that some people would assume that he’s covered.”
Freeman went on to suggest that the coaching staff was to blame for some of his lack of engagement in the offense earlier in the year.
“We have to trust him. He’s not always going to outrun everybody. He’s not going to be wide open. If he’s one-on-one, give him a chance. Because more than not, he’s gonna make the play.”
Finally, one of the reasons why the Notre Dame football head coach is so excited about seeing what Jaden Greathouse can do in 2025 is because he believes there’s going to be some real growth ahead of this season. “We’ll continue to see elevation out of Jaden, because he’s a grinder. He’s a guy that’s obsessed with improvement. He’s going into his third year … he’s just continuously getting better.”
