If you're still celebrating the news that quarterback Champ Monds will be South Bend-bound for his college career, you're not alone. The 4-star quarterback had a boatload of offers, but in the end, he committed to Marcus Freeman and Notre Dame.
Notre Dame could keep its red hot May rolling with another WR soon
His finalists were the Irish, Ohio State and Florida State, highlighting what a big recruiting win this was for Freeman. So, what helped get things over the line? While speaking with Pat McAfee, Monds didn't hold back in bringing up the massive impact Freeman had on him. Yup, the stud signal-caller can't wait to make plays for him at the next level:
"Marcus Freeman is super down to earth and he was telling me how I would fit at Notre Dame..

Marcus Freeman played a huge role in quarterback Champ Monds picking Notre Dame
"I mean first of all, he's super down to earth," Monds said of Freeman. "When you're talking to him, you don't feel like he's on any other higher level than you. He's just such a humble guy and he was just telling me different things about the program and how I would fit. That's the reason they wanted me to join their program. Coach Freeman, I feel like he's a great guy and a great coach. I can't wait to see what they do this year."
Freeman showing his humble side and winning over not only a prospect but his family as well? This is something we've seen several times before. Freeman has developed a reputation for being down to earth and Monds' comments with McAfee certainly confirms that.
Throughout his recruitment, the 4-star prospect, ranked the No. 20 quarterback in the country per the 247Sports Composite, picked up a total of 34 offers. With him being a Vero Beach, Fla. product as well, it only adds to how great of a get this is for Freeman, as it surely stings for Mike Norvell to see an in-state playmaker leave Florida.
Moving forward, Monds has a senior year ahead of him and he's going to work overtime to make sure he's at his best before making the move to Notre Dame. He lost most of his junior season due to injury, but he's jacked up to make his last year of high school ball a memorable one. And from start to finish, Notre Dame fans will be watching him closely now that he's going to potentially be the QB of the future.
