While the Notre Dame football team is getting ready for the National Championship game against Ohio State, Irish fans are worried about what happens after. Specifically, head coach Marcus Freeman is rumored to be getting pursued by several NFL teams.

The Chicago Bears are front and center when it comes to this sort of thing. The team had looked at Freeman right when it fired Matt Eberflus. Then things died down, but earlier this week, the Bears got themselves back into the news with buzz that they want to interview Freeman after the title game. However, it looks like there’s good news just one day after that report.

The Notre Dame football team’s head coach is said to be sticking around. And that means that the recent opening with the Dallas Cowboys is also one that Irish fans don’t need to worry about.

Notre Dame football fans can breathe a sigh of relief

The report that Freeman is sticking around came from NFL insider Adam Schefter on Monday afternoon. Schefter appeared on the Pat McAfee show and seemingly cleared some things up.

“I have heard that Marcus Freeman is happy at Notre Dame,” Schefter said. “He did sign that deal recently. I don't know whether that's leverage or not. I have no idea. I don't have direct information beyond that.”

In other words, it looks as though Freeman will stick around South Bend for at least a few more years. That should make Notre Dame football fans feel a little better. With the caveat that things can move quickly when it comes to the NFL and head coaching hires. After all, it seemed like Dallas wasn’t even looking for a head coach when the week began.
